Ok, this last month flew by! But, here we are celebrating Baby Buddy's 1/2 Birthday. :) Adara even sung "Happy 1/2 Birthday to You!" for him. :) We haven't had his check-up yet, but I'll post measurements when we do. No worries, though, he definitely is a growing boy!
His big focus right now is learning to crawl. He's taken a few "steps" forward, but since he doesn't realize he can go any distance yet I'm not ready to call it. Pretty sure he's got it, though, and I'm guessing he'll realize that in the next few weeks as well. Then the real trouble begins! He's already pretty good at getting into mischief. He can "climb" out of the little innertube play gym we have. Adara used to be content sitting and playing in there for extended periods of time. Not Kyle! He also wriggled his way through some open shelving they have at daycare and has learned to lift himself up enough on our milk crates to retrieve (Adara's) toys. :P Pulling items on top of himself (Adara's toy stroller, his diaper bin) and getting himself stuck in various jams are also some of his new favorite skills. Perhaps I should go introduce myself to the staff at the children's hospital now.... :P
His first tooth has yet to surface, but something (tooth, frustration with the crawling, separation anxiety?) has been making him a bear at night. Whatever it is, I hope he works it out soon!
He is also practicing new noises. His favorites are "Mmmmmmm" and a "Hhhuuuu" (think of the sound of someone drawing in their breath in surprise). This second noise Adara will imitate and they get a little "conversation" going sometimes. It's pretty cute! :) He just adores his big sister!
And his big sister's toys.... his favorite toy, by far, is Adara's pink guitar. Perhaps when he is older we'll get him one of a more neutral color. He also really likes things that have wheels (the toy stroller...) and anything he can bang bang on something else to make noise. The little pop-up surprise toy keeps him entertained for good amounts of time as well. He'll pop one of the animals up then open and close the door like playing peak-a-boo. You can almost see his little brain trying to process it all. ;) He also loves chomping into a good book. ;) Adara is starting to get a bit nervous about his interest in her toys and has taken to hiding her more treasured items out of his reach, lol. We are looking forward to the fun ahead! :)
This morning we went to visit a historic farm. The farm is kept similarly to how it would have been in the 1800's. Adara was all excited when I told her we were going to the farm and she kept talking about seeing the pigs. Luckily, there were pigs! :) But, while she found the pigs interesting, her "favorite" animals were the chickens. There was a large pen with chickens, roosters and ducks. Some of the chickens had escaped and were wondering the grounds too. One of the gentlemen who worked there let us in to the chicken pen and Adara got to give some cracked corn to the chickens. She was just fascinated with them (standing, staring, attune to their every move)! We also got to see some milking cows and some very large plow horses. Kyle got very upset each time we went into the barn to see the cows and horses. I'm guessing the large animals must have frightened him a bit. Either that or seeing the cow being milked was enough to drive the poor hungry guy over the edge, lol. ;) Adara was also fascinated with the cow being milked. There was a field trip of older kids and they were taking turns milking. The fact that the milk could be used to make butter was also intriguing to Adara ("I didn't know that!"). We stood for a long time watching the horses eat too, then Adara turned to me and said "I want to see the horse go poopy." Lol! (The horse did not oblige) Overall, a very fun trip!
